I used to think the future of skincare meant chasing “clean.”

For over a decade, clean beauty was the loudest voice in the room — every ad, every launch, every shelf lined with the word “clean” as if it were the finish line. And for a while, I believed it. I believed clean would save us from formulas filled with question marks. I believed clean meant progress.

But the truth is, clean was never the whole story. It stripped out the questionable, but it didn’t shorten the steps. It removed, but rarely transformed. And for skin like mine, it often fell short. So I asked myself: if clean isn’t the future, what is?

Japanese beauty has always been my benchmark for quality. Its elegance, its craft, its quiet respect for the skin barrier shaped how I understood luxury. But while J-Beauty gave us precision, it rarely spoke to every complexion.

With DEAU, I wanted to take that legacy further — to supercharge Japanese science with a new philosophy. One that merges heritage with inclusivity. One that creates formulas as visionary as the people who use them.

Why We Exist

I created DEAU because I was tired of excess being sold as luxury, irritation being disguised as efficacy, and routines that excluded the very people they claimed to serve.
